Summer Academy 2010:
We had an exciting summer at Ward 6, filled with discovery, adventure and a few tears. The tears mostly came last week when we had to say goodbye after a fantastic three-day trip to Pennsylvania State University.
This summer we had a wonderful group of teachers that challenged our scholars so they will be ready for the start of school in just a few weeks. Scholars concluded their classroom experience with projects, spanning from a science fair (including an egg drop competition) for our 5th and 8th grade scholars, to Model Un for the 7th graders, to a mock trial for the 6th grade. In addition, we took field trips this summer to the Smithsonian museums,, Terrapin outdoor adventure center, and the Anacostia Watershed Society. Our 8th grade scholars visited some of the top high schools in the area to give them a better idea of where they want to apply to school. I could go on an on about all of our adventures but I will leave that up to your scholars when you see them this fall.
I am very proud to say that we worked really hard at building up Ward 6 spirit this summer. Our hard work paid off when Ward 6 proudly took home the Sprit Award at Olympics of The Mind. We also made history by winning the first ever 5th&6th Grade award. We are very proud and hopefully this will make you even more eager to meet our new 5th grade class. Our new 5th graders are bright, excited and ready to learn!
