Week in Review
Ward 6 has officially started! I hope everyone has been enjoying all the activities during culture week. Scholars really learned a lot about our awesome mentors during the interviews. Also on Tuesday the Scholar-Ship was a big success with a beautiful SPARC poster to show from it. Thursday night was a night of competition; with fantastic spirit everyone enjoyed a mini Olympics of the Mind, with the “warriors” taking home some extra candy. It is inspiring to see you interact with the scholars. I can not reiterate enough how important it is to form relationships with them early on. I know that great things will come of your work with our scholars! Next week we will have our first week with mentoring groups! Remember to use your SPARC chips and check sheets when necessary. This will help you in your efforts to keep your scholars engaged and on task.
Mentoring Groups
Mentor groups will start with Tuesday night mentors (Monday will be culture night). You will receive your groups in the next few days, as they are arraigned. Please let me know if your assignment is wrong. You will start with talking about expectations for the group and ground rules, get to know your scholars interests. You will then want to move into the goal setting activity (attached). Please take this first week to get to know the scholars.
Seminar Mentors: Talk to your scholars about interests, if you have chosen a particular seminar see what they think about it.

Mentor Mini Bio
We ask for mentors to write a letter to the families of their scholars so they can understand some of the things you will be doing this year. Attached is a sample of a letter you can use as a template. Please complete one letter per scholar. You have two options: You can e-mail me your letters and I will send them to your scholars’ homes or you can give it to your scholar and send it home with them.
