Welcome to After School Academy!

Welcome to
AFTER SCHOOL ACADEMY 2009!

Mr. Sam and I would like to officially welcome you to After School Academy 2009! Our Scholars are Pumped to see all of you! We all worked hard this summer to create a culture that represents our commitment to excellence.

As Welcome Week comes to a close, I would like to share with you my excitement over meeting so many mentors. It was truly my pleasure.

First, I would like to thank all the returning mentors for understanding the commitment and pride we have in our Scholars, and for helping with New Mentor Orientation and Welcome Week. As I am new to this position the continued support is greatly appreciated. I am eager to get to know all of you in the years to come.

Second, I would like to formally welcome all the new mentors that are excited and eager to get involved with Higher Achievement. It was wonderful speaking and hearing the ideas that you have for AFSA.

Due to the fact that AFSA will be postponed, I strongly recommend that you start reviewing lessons, update your profiles and formularizing your self with ISIS.

Thank you and Shout Outs!

o Thank you to Ms. Sarah and Ms. Elizabeth for supporting and truly believing in Raheem. They offered wonderful advice to returning mentors, and added valuable information to new mentors.
o Shout out to Ms. Kristi for leading the math lesson and really showing new mentors great insight into mentoring and teaching.
o Kudos to Mr. John for both leading the Catholic mentors over to the office and really being a key asset during the lesson break out session.
o Shout out to Mr. Wes for having wonderful spirit, leadership and respect when answering questions from new mentors. He did a fantastic job leading the literature lesson break out session, as he spear headed the group and really offered valuable advice.

Announcements: After School Academy will not be starting next week. AFSA will be starting one week from securing a site, to give us time to relocate. We will inform you of the new location and start date. Our proposed locations are in capital hill. Please check your email and the Ward 6 blog regularly.
Please turn in all paperwork to me – TB tests and background check paperwork are still needed.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Ward regards,
Ms. Moraya

  1. Which lessons should we review, if we do not know which grade or topic we are teaching?
